As charity we take our education responsibilities very seriously and believe knowledge will secure beautiful environments like Batsford for the future.

Education is a key part of our work at Batsford and we welcome local school children to come along and explore the arboretum. We have a large Education Centre that schools are welcome to hire free of charge.

Arboretum entry for schools is £4.00 per person, including adults.

Forest School sessions at Batsford

We offer children from nursery school age through to secondary school age Forest School sessions at our Forest School site.

Forest School activities include:

  • Den building
  • Hunting for mini beasts
  • Plant finding/identification
  • Natural art
  • Storytime

…and more!

Our qualified Forest School Leader will lead the sessions, and can link the experiences at Forest School to what the children are learning in school. The sessions are very much child-lead, and play and choice are an integral part of the Forest School learning process.

Our Forest School sessions are for groups of up to 30 children and can be taken as a one-off, two-hour long session, or if you would like to spend the day at Batsford, the children can take part in a Forest School session in the morning, followed by a guided tour of our Arboretum trail in the afternoon.

We can also offer blocks of 6, two-hour long Forest School sessions that can be taken weekly throughout term time.
