The Visitor Centre at Batsford is specially designed to be accessible to everyone. Inside you’ll find the Arboretum entrance, Garden and Gift Shops and Garden Terrace Café all on one level as well as disabled toilets.
Designated disabled parking is available immediately outside the main Visitor Centre.
From the main car park, disabled visitors can access the main building via a purpose built ramp which leads down to the level area and into the main entrance.
The Plant Sales area is accessible via a series of gently sloping paths specifically designed to comply with disabled access regulations.
The Arboretum is situated on a hillside and may prove a challenge to less mobile visitors.
About 25% of the Arboretum is accessible by manual wheelchairs but electrically powered wheelchairs and mobility scooters will make the paths easier to negotiate.
Traditional wheelchairs are available to hire - please call us on 01386 701441 to book. Wheelchair users are not charged an entrance fee for the Arboretum.
Batsford offers less able visitors greater access to the Arboretum thanks to our two all-terrain vehicles called Trampers which are available to book for a single slot only at 10.00am, 12.00pm or 2.00pm (this ensures the maximum number of people get the benefit of the Trampers, particularly at busy times).
Our Trampers are provided by the Countryside Mobility Scheme, if you’re already a member of the scheme, you can hire our Trampers for free, just paying the normal concessionary entrance fee. For non-members of the scheme, the Trampers cost £2.50 for a two week taster membership to the South West Countryside Mobility Scheme, or £10 for the year, which then gives access to Trampers across the South West.
We offer all Tramper users a short 10-minute training session to ensure they are comfortable with operating them before exploring the Arboretum.
